TROPICA – Horsetail Tree (Casuarina equisetifolia) – 200 Seeds – Bonsai

TROPICA® – Horsetail Tree (Casuarina equisetifolia) – 200 Seeds

Worth knowing: The strange looking Horsetail Tree – also known as Australian Beach Pine – develops leaves that resemble pine needles. As it does also grow in sandy ground, it requires little water and is a tub plant that doesn’t need much attention.

Origin: Northern Australia is home to the Horsetail Tree.

Propagation: Seeds can be started indoors any time throughout the year. Sow the fine seeds on moist seed starting soil and cover them thinly with the growing medium. With even humidity, the first seeds germinate within 2 to 3 weeks.

Place / Light: Full sun places are preferred. An outdoor position in front of pale-coloured walls is also possible during summer.

Care: Always keep the soil slightly moist and do not allow the soil to dry out. Avoid standing water. From April to September, the plant should be provided with bonsai-fertilizer on a monthly basis. Fertilizing is not necessary during winter.

Winter period: New shoots that have grown to a length of 8 to 10 cm, can be pruned back to a length of 2 cm afterwards. Once the plant has matured, new shoots can also be pulled by hand.

Bonsai Suitability: Yes
